A Sick Baby

Imagine having a new born baby that became ill. Now what if you lived in a city that doesn't have comprehensive pediatric care? What would you do? Some people have to leave or sell their homes, leave their jobs and families to travel hundreds of miles to get the care they need.

Now imagine that your city could have that same care offered by other major cities, but because of money and power a few stood in the way of quality pediatric healthcare for an entire region.

At least one reporter from a small town is on the case. The deals in the back rooms have gone public. Which is huge in Louisiana politics. This is good for every family that has or will have a sick child that needs specialized care in this region of the country. The problem is that most people don't know how deficient the level of care is until they have to uproot their lives and travel to get something they never dreamed they would need. Now is the time for the city of Shreveport to stand up and demand that the hospital with the perseverance and capital be supported by the entire medical community to assist (or at least not sabatoge) this Children's hospital to make it the best that it can be.

Don't be lazy now, you never know when you will need it and you want it there when you do.

Read the above linked story and realize how many families this happens to every year. It doesn't have to be that way and things are very close to being very different.....but the tipping point for Shreveport to get what it needs for their children needs to come from the adults. NOW IS THE TIME to STAND UP and be heard.

After much bickering back and forth in The Shreveport Times editorial pages (no links available) tomorrow there will be a major piece looking at the 3 major players. I will have the link.
